Skripsi ini berjudul The Effectiveness of Using Movie in Speaking Descriptive Style Teaching, (An Experimental Research at the Eight Grade of SMP Cokroaminoto Banjarmangu Banjarnegara in the Academic Year of 2010/2011).
Research Design/Method yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu An Experimental Study: descriptive qualitative analysis dan Research Instrument dalam mengumpulkan data menggunakan documentation and test.
Abstract
The background of this research is teacher still uses conventional methods; the teacher only delivers materials verbally. She rarely uses media, so, the students are easy getting bored. Teaching learning process should be varied to make students feel fun for the learning process. They need more than instruction and commandment from their teacher. It is teachers challenge to be able to motivate the students to pay attention to their lesson. To improve students speaking ability, the researcher uses movie as a teaching medium to help them in teaching learning process.
The objective of the research is to prove whether using movie differentiates students achievement in speaking descriptive style between students who are taught using movie and students who are taught using non movie at the eighth grade of SMP Cokroaminoto Banjarmangu Banjarnegara in the academic year of 2010/2011.
The research was conducted at SMP Cokroaminoto Banjarmangu Banjarnegara in the academic year of 2010/2011. The subject of this research was the students of eighth graders in class VIII A and VIII B. The number of the subject was forty four. The design of research that used was experimental research. This research conducted pre-test, treatments, and post-test.
The techniques were used to collect the data are documentation and test. In the pre-test, the researcher gave test to both classes with the same instrument. In the treatments, researcher taught the students in control class without movie. And she taught the students in experimental class using movie. After doing the treatments, researcher gave post-test to both classes with the same instrument.
After the data had been collected by test, it was found that the pre-test average of the experimental class was 62.27 and control class was 61.82. While, the post-test average of the experimental class was 72.73 and control class was 66.14. The obtained t-test was 2.454, whereas the t-table was 1.68 for a = 5%. The t-test score was higher than the t-table (2.454 > 1.67). It was meant that Ha was accepted while Ho was rejected. Since t-test score was higher than the t-table, movie was effective media in improving students speaking ability at the eighth grade of SMP Cokroaminoto Banjarmangu Banjarnegara in the academic year of 2010/2011. Finally the researcher suggests teachers to use appropriate media in English teaching learning process.
